Abstract. A brief sketch of the history of parallel computing in Russia is presented. Due to certain circumstances, this history is practically unknown in the West. Meanwhile, Russian scientists seem to have made a valuable and original contribution to this important field of computer science. The overview contains short summaries of the most interesting russian investigations in the domains of Parallel Programming, Parallel Computing Systems, and Distributed Computing in Cellular Structures. The list of references covers about 50 works.
